Adding RG-92 to our koi feed proved to be a true game changer. Originally, we planned to use these unique microalgae from Beppu only in feed for larger koi. However, after visiting Sarabio and speaking with the producer of RG-92, we learned that its greatest benefits are achieved when it is introduced at a young age. This makes perfect sense. Early development is the most important stage in a koi’s life, and high-quality nutrition during this period helps its future potential. KiGen developed a dedicated tosai feed containing LT71 fish meal, millet, a balanced vitamin and mineral premix, and RG-92. Special attention has been given to skin quality, color development, and healthy skeletal growth.

Below is an excerpt from our interview with Sarabio.

Q: We have decided to add RG-92 to our premium feed for larger koi. What can koi keepers expect from this, and what is your view on its potential benefits?

A: We spent 17 years researching the effects of RG-92 on humans and an additional 5 years studying its effects on other living organisms, a total of 22 years of research. Our conclusion is that the intestinal environment is of critical importance.

To produce Nishikigoi of the highest quality, timing is essential, just as early childhood is a crucial developmental period in humans. In fish, this corresponds to the fry stage, from hatching through the tosai and early nisai stages. If young koi do not develop a strong immune system and healthy intestinal villi during this early stage, they will be less capable of efficiently absorbing nutrients in the small intestine. Consequently, they become more susceptible to disease and may suffer from poor appetite and reduced growth. For this reason, it is extremely important to provide RG-92 from this early stage to: Strengthen the immune system and support the development of the intestinal villi.

In other words. It helps develop the koi’s ability to eat efficiently, utilize nutrients effectively, and grow in a healthy manner. I believe, when koi are raised using this high-quality nutritional approach, it is possible to produce truly exceptional Nishikigoi.
